Dewey's Pizza was born in 1996 when founder David "Dewey" Sandusky set out to create a neighborhood pizza spot that didn't cut corners. Starting with a single wood-fired oven and a handful of tables, Dewey obsessed over every detail — from the slow-fermented dough to the hand-crushed San Marzano tomatoes.

Today, at 122 E Lockwood Ave in Webster Groves, MO, we continue that same tradition. Every pizza that leaves our kitchen is made the way Dewey intended — with high-quality ingredients, skilled hands, and genuine care for every single customer.

1996

The First Slice

David "Dewey" Sandusky opens the original location on E Lockwood Ave with a used stone oven, six tables, and a dream to make Webster Groves' best pizza.

2001

First Expansion

After five years of packed houses and growing demand, Dewey's doubled its dining room capacity and added a dedicated prep kitchen to keep up with orders.

2007

Award-Winning Recognition

Dewey's Pizza wins "Best Pizza in St. Louis" in the Riverfront Times readers' poll — an honor we'd go on to earn six more times over the next decade.

2012

Going Local & Seasonal

Dewey's formalizes its farm-to-table partnerships, sourcing seasonal vegetables and dairy from Missouri farms within 150 miles of Webster Groves.

2018

New Wood-Fired Oven

We invested in a custom-built Neapolitan-style wood-fired oven imported from Naples, Italy — upgrading our craft to deliver an even more authentic pizza experience.

2024

Online Ordering Launch

Dewey's launches its online ordering platform, making it easier than ever for customers to enjoy our handcrafted pizzas from the comfort of home.
